Shannon Daily, Writing Project Coordinator

What does Shannon do for FPIN?

As my title suggests, I work on writing projects for FPIN. That means I am making sure that submitted manuscripts are weaving through the review and publication schedule in a timely manner. The editorial management system has some quirks, so making sure that an author’s hard work doesn’t get lost in the ether is my focus. I also make sure that GEMS of the Week is published and disseminated

Background

I have spent my career in non-profits that focus on meeting concrete needs (obtaining food, substance use disorder treatment, child welfare services, etc.) for individuals and families. It is a change of pace to be in a non-profit organization with an educational focus like FPIN.

Hobbies

I like adventures. Sometimes that is spending a free afternoon at a museum or traveling to a fun location. It doesn’t have to be a grand adventure to qualify as an adventure for me. The goal is to do something different that gets me outside of my comfort zone. I love to play games (cards and board) and take hikes with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading and completing crossword puzzles.

Unique Skills

I like to learn so I end up learning skills that may not have any practical application in my day-to-day life. For example, I can braid wool rugs, sew, quilt, and knit. With my sister’s help, I made a metal bar spoon that required me to use tools I would never otherwise touch.

I enjoy learning these techniques, but they never became long-term passions or hobbies for me. I like understanding the creation process if for no other reason than I can truly appreciate passionate creators who make beautiful work later.

Fun Facts

I want to travel the world. I’ve visited almost all the US states (two states left to go!) and several other countries but my dream is to visit all of the continents.

I also have three amazing children who have become (or are becoming) kind and talented adults.

What do you love most about FPIN?

I love the mission of FPIN promoting critical thinking skills in medical education while simultaneously sharing information with medical professionals. Plus, the FPIN team knows how to have fun while accomplishing a lot each day.

Favorite Netflix series or movie and why?

I like having multiple streaming services so that I can watch Star Trek, Star Wars, and the Great British Baking Show. I am a fan of science fiction (books, shows, and movies) but I also like the supportive competition of the Great British Baking Show. Plus, the Great British Baking Show makes me think I, too, can bake amazing things.
